TOURISM WORLDWIDE
Tourism is travel for pleasure. Tourism may be
international, or within the traveler's country.
Tourism can be domestic or international, and international tourism has
both incoming and outgoing. Today, tourism is a major source of income for many
countries, and affects the economy of both the source and host countries, in
some cases being of vital importance.
World’s top tourism destinations
The World Tourism
Organization reports the following ten destinations as the most visited in
terms of the number of international travellers in 2015.
Tourist
attraction
A tourist attraction is a place of
interest where tourists visit,
typically for its inherent or exhibited natural or cultural value, historical
significance, natural or built beauty, offering leisure, adventure and
amusement.
Example:
The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, a popular tourist attraction. Almost 7
million visit the tower each year.
Types
cultural tourist attractions include historical
places, monuments, ancient temples, zoos, aquaria, museums and art
galleries, botanical gardens,
buildings and structures (e.g., castles, libraries, former prisons, skyscrapers, bridges), theme parks and carnivals, living history museums, ethnic enclave communities, historic trains and cultural events.
Natural beauty such as beaches, tropical island resorts with coral reefs, hiking and camping in national parks, mountains and forests, are examples of traditional
tourist attractions to spend summer
vacations.
Factory tours, industrial heritage, creative art
and crafts workshops are the object of cultural niches like industrial tourism and creative tourism.
Space tourism
There has been a
limited amount of orbital space tourism, with only the Russian Space
Agency providing transport to date. A 2010 report into space tourism
anticipated that it could become a billion dollar market by 2030.
